Notes:
Longmorn distillery is found between Glen of Rothes and Elgin. Its name is derived from the Gaelic, Lhanmorgund, which means ‘place of the holy man’. This is a reference to the church which once stood there.
Prior to the distillery being built in 1897, there had also been a grain mill on the site.
R.J.S. McDowell actually considered Longmorn to be one of the top four malt whiskies.
TASTING NOTE
Colour:
Deep gold.
Without water
Nose:
Sweet, fruity - sherry with dried fruits - sultanas and raisins. Slightly herbal - menthol with charred oak aromas.
Palate:
Sweet, herbal (eucalyptus) with sherry elements developing and some dark chocolate flavours.
With water
Nose:
Sherry notes with floral aromas - geraniums, the menthol note returns almost spearmint. A slightly resinous note on the edge.
Palate:
Rich, sherry initially with herbal notes. Subtle smokiness.
Body:
Mellow and rich.
Finish:
Subtle - a little sherry wood and smoke.
Cask Type:
First Fill and Refill Sherry Casks.
Whisky Style:
Rich, aromatic whisky with smooth, oily flavours.
