Notes: Dramatically perched on the southern edge of the island of Islay, surrounded by treacherous seas and battered by strong winds, Ardbeg Distillery has produced one of the heaviest and peatiest malts likely to be encountered. The distillery in its current form was founded by the MacDougall family (with John MacDougall being the most prominent). In 1997, the distillery was acquired by Glenmorangie plc who have invested heavily both in the distillery and the marketing of its malt. TASTING NOTE Colour:Pale yellow. Undiluted Nose:Creamy, smoke cured ham. Salty (sea tangle,driftwood). Palate:Salty, briny with birch wood flavours. Some sweet, medicinal notes present. With water Nose:Smoky (burnt toast) with some fruit and sweet phenols. Palate:Sweet, medicinal with a salty edge. Hints of spices and cereal. Body:Full. Finish:Slightly oily - creosote. Cask Type:First Fill and Refill Sherry Casks. Whisky Style:A powerful whisky - full of smoke, spices and a distinct salty edge.
