Situated six miles southwest of Elgin is Pluscarden Abbey. Initially a Priory, it was founded by King Alexander II in 1230. Miltonduff is said to be situated on the site of the Abbey’s meal mill, two miles from the Abbey. A stone from the original Abbey is retained at the distillery. As well as the distillery, the site is home to laboratories, engineering support, centralised warehousing management and the Malt Distilleries Technical Centre which provides technical and business backup to the other Allied distilleries. From 1964 to 1981, Miltonduff also produced another Single Malt - Mosstowie. Produced using a “Lomond Still”, Mosstowie is available in our Connoisseurs Choice Range. Miltonduff is a key component of Ballantines blend.
TASTING NOTE
Colour:
Deep orange.
Undiluted
Nose:
Sherry notes predominate, hints of green grass and menthol underneath.
Palate:
Sherry with earthy flavours. An oily, nuttiness develops.
With water
Nose:
Sherry with spicy, (liquorice sticks) aromas.
Palate:
Smoky initially with rich, fruitiness. Subtle sweetness - treacle.
Body:
Mellow
Finish:
Sherry wood.
Cask Type:
First fill sherry hogsheads.
Whisky Style:
A rich and soothing Malt Whisky.
